Gearbox refurbishment restores critical drive reliability
Hayley 247 Dexis received a David Brown H2-315 parallel shaft reduction gearbox with significant internal damage that had compromised its operational reliability.
Inspection revealed cracked casing webs, oversized bearing bores, and extensive gear failure across both the first and second reduction stages. Due to the extent of the wear and structural damage a comprehensive refurbishment was required to return the unit to service.
The engineering team carried out a full gearbox rebuild, replacing all major damaged components. A complete new gearcase was installed to address the structural issues, while a new EN24T output shaft was manufactured to original spec.
To restore performance and durability, fully hardened and ground first and second stage gear sets were fitted. Bearings, seals, and cooling system components were also renewed.
Following assembly of the gearbox, a complete rebuild and testing process were undertaken to verify performance and operational integrity before release.
The refurbishment successfully restored the gearbox to full working condition, providing a cost-effective alternative to replacement.
