Composite repair system withstands five-ton challenge
Belzona has showcased the strength restoration capabilities of its SuperWrap II composite repair system through a live load test involving a five-ton monster truck.
The company reinforced a carbon steel pipe with the SuperWrap II composite wrap system, which combines a 100% solids resin with a bespoke hybrid reinforcement sheet incorporating fibreglass and carbon fibre technology, before subjecting it to the weight of the Red Dragon monster truck at its headquarters in Harrogate, UK.
Despite the enormous load, the reinforced pipe successfully withstood the challenge, providing a striking demonstration of the system’s ability to restore the integrity of holed, weakened, corroded and eroded pipework and tank walls.
Commenting on the challenge, Barry Nisill, CEO at Belzona, said: “Having a seven-tonne monster truck drive over a pipe repaired with Belzona SuperWrap II certainly captured people’s attention, but it also demonstrated the strength and reliability of a technology that helps customers around the world extend the life of critical equipment and infrastructure.”
