AEMT launches BSI Standards Online Library
Established in 1945, the Association of Electrical & Mechanical Trades (AEMT) is the international association representing companies that manufacture, distribute, install, service, maintain, and repair all forms of rotating equipment. The latest edition to its roster of available support to members is the newly launched online library of BSI Standards. Accessed via the main AEMT website, this dedicated portal, allows members to identify, review and download any applicable BSI Standard along with its stipulations and requirements. All the standards reproduced within the library are done so with the permission of BSI Standards Limited (BSI) under licence number 2021ET008.
Some 54 industry relevant standards have been curated, including 60034-23 The Repair Overhaul and Reclamation of Rotating Electrical Equipment, 60079-19 The Repair Overhaul and Reclamation of Hazardous Area Equipment, 8001 Framework for implementing the Circular Economy, and ISOs 9001, 14001 and 18001.

Having easy and direct access to the full complement of BSI Standards, is not only a huge asset for member companies, but it is also of significant benefit to their customers. When using an AEMT registered member for the ongoing maintenance and/or repair of any electro-mechanical equipment, end-users can be confident that information on the latest Standards can be readily obtained and appraised.

Passionately supporting the craft of mending and renewing electro-mechanical apparatus for its enhancement and reuse, the association is upfront and central in the drive towards a circular economy. As such, it is committed to ensuring its members have all the necessary guidance and information at their disposal, to help them deliver on the ever-growing needs and requirements of their customers.

This latest offering further complements an already comprehensive package of support which includes a wide range of training courses, regular standards, compliance and accreditation updates, practical support on recruitment and skills development, a quarterly publication and annual buyers guide as well as regular meetings, seminars, and of course its annual awards programme.

Around the world, businesses, innovators, policymakers, and cities are recognising that our take, make, waste linear economy – in which finite resources are extracted to make products that are used, generally not to their full potential, and then thrown away – is no longer working for people or the planet.

Given the speed at which our government changes policies these days, I'm hesitating to make any comments in this quarter's update for fear of it being outdated by the time it is is published. We are at the beginning of a new year, and there will be many new opportunities to watch out for. It's also a good opportunity to take stock of the last 12 months and reflect on what was another remarkable year for our industry.
