AEMT Apprenticeships 2017
2017 is proving to be a cross-over year as the new Trailblazer Apprentice Schemes are launched. Under the new scheme – industries with a large yearly intake of apprentices have been able to write their own course structures; with the idea being they then approach colleges to take up the course.With yearly intakes from the AEMT membership not being of a high enough threshold to start a member companies’ trailblazer scheme – the association is obliged to side with a scheme that reflects the members’ requirements most closely. By promoting the scheme, funding will still be available to companies looking to put apprentices through the course. If the AEMT were to go independently to produced their own scheme, it could not be named an apprentice scheme, and nor would any government funding be available.
Currently, the training committee are looking at the Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Standard (MOET), which fulfils the requirements for electromechanical technician apprentices. Corroborating with the Skills Funding Agency, the AEMT will start writing and applying for an ‘AEMT’ option of modules addended to the core for the standard, which we expect to have in place by 2020.
Under the current structure, Loughborough College are able to continue providing the Electro-Mechanical Apprenticeship, with at least two more years’ worth of intakes. By 2020, the AEMT will have explored the route of adding an additional ‘AEMT’ path way to the MOET standard that will reflect member’s needs.
