Rewind and Repair of Electric Motors

The bread and butter of most AEMT members’ income comes from the maintenance and repair of electric motors, generators and transformers.

In 2015, the repair and maintenance of electric motors, generators and transformers is worth nearly €500 million alone in the UK, and over €4.3 billion within the EU (according to PRODCOM eurostats).

The AEMT was formed to support this industry, with all the ancillary equipment associated with it, including pumps, gearboxes, fans and turbines to name a few.

The range of electric motors is incredible. The major international manufacturers and distributors include ABBATBBrook CromptonSiemens and WEG to name a few. However, a lot of service centres are able to also completely manufacture bespoke and niche motor systems for many different applications.

If it wasn’t for the humble electric motor, nothing would be as it is today. You are never far from an operating motor; they can be found in lifts and elevators in hotels and shopping centres. Drum motors can be found in the conveyor belts of supermarkets. Recently the application of electric motors has even been used in cars, ferries and aeroplanes.

It has been said before that electric motor repair centres are the 4th emergency service. They can bring the nation to a standstill if they were not in operation. Larger companies can lose millions each day a motor or generator is down; which is why most AEMT members operate 24/7 throughout the year.
